EDIT: Did a bunch more research, looks like only v5 will actually work for me. So looking for v5 only. Sorry for the confusion!

Hey everyone! I'm looking for an original Nintendo DS (NOT lite) on firmware 5. The reason for this specific firmwares is that DS consoles shipped from the factory on that firmware had slightly different hardware, allowing you to install custom firmware and adjust brightness levels akin to a DS lite. I've gotten tired of searching eBay and messaging sellers asking if they'll check before I buy it, so I'm hoping someone here can help out. Here's how to check your firmware. Please note that if at some point you have installed custom firmware, this test won't work properly.

    Instructions

Step 1: Put a DS game cartridge into the DS (flashcarts may or may not work)
Step 2: Turn on the DS (hold down start while powering on if you have auto mode)
Step 3: Load up pictochat from the DS menu and go into any chat room
Step 4: Take the DS game cartridge out while in pictochat
    Step 5: Done

    Versions

    v1: Pictochat freezes
    v2: two greyish blue screens
    v3: two dark green screens
    v4: two golden yellow screens
    v5: two magenta screens
v6: two dark blue screens (should never appear on original DS)
v7: DS system does not crash (should never appear on original DS)

Guide on how to check was found here. Since it's been such a pain for me to track down, I'm willing to pay a better price than a standard run of the mill DS. Also, cosmetic condition doesn't matter to me, but functionality does. So no broken hinge, buttons, etc. Thanks!
