Amazon currently has The Spectacular Spider-Man: The Complete Series on Blu-ray for $19.99. This is the lowest price that I've seen for the series so far. Nice price, highly recommend. The only shame is that they didn't make a third season. Nice. Bought it. Nope- this is the awesome animated version of Spider-man. Honestly, the most awesomenest! No mention of SHIELD in this amazing show! This is the animated Spiderman series from around 2009. It didn't get that much in the way of publicity or promotion, and only ran for two seasons. This show (and Wolverine and the X-Men) were the victim of unfortunate timing. During the production of the second/third seasons of each Marvel was bought by Disney. The way the contracts were laid out, Sony could keep either the movie rights for Spider-Man, or the TV rights. Guess which Sony chose. So, because Disney owned the characters and Sony owned the actual TV series, the series ended up ending outright. Greg Wiseman actually had all 5 seasons planned out. Easily the best Spider-Man animated series ever made. Buy this!! Just bought. For once not having the money to afford something came out worked out for me. I still have the GL Blu-ray to watch as well. Now where the hell is my Young Justice Blu, so I can die happy?!?! Please for the love of god buy this. One of the best animated superhero shows ever, rivaling even Batman: The Animated Series. I can't speak more highly of this show. I fourth or fifth or 20th this statement, I bought it the week it came out, paid about $10 more, and I don't regret it. Yeah, Batman: The Animated Series still reigns supreme. But this particular iteration of Spiderman is at least punching in the same weight class. And that's saying something. It stands tall next to series like B:TAS, Justice League, and Batman: Beyond. They just need to make the 90s Spiderman complete series and I'll be happy. I certainly bought them. To be fair, the X-Men cartoon has almost certainly aged better than the 90s Spiderman. While there are some fond memories associated with 90s Spiderman, the show was guilty of some of the most egregious animation recycling. On the other hand, it had Mark Hamill playing the Hobgoblin, and that was awesome. I rewatched the 90s Spider-Man on Netflix a little while back, thought it held up OK. Storyline's were a bit neutered but characterizations were spot on and a lot of the memorable moments still worked well. That being said, it's not as cleanly done as say X-Men or the DC stuff but probably one of my sentimental favorites.
