    Step 1: Changing your password

Once you have logged into the account go here and change your password I recommend you generate a password using a password generator or make a password yourself that includes special characters, uppercase & lowercase letters etc. If you find it hard to remember passwords you can use a password manager once you have entered your password click save.

Enabling "Make me change my password every 72 days" is a good idea it doesn't hurt to change your passwords regularly.

    Step 2: Changing Security Proofs

Go to this link and add as many pieces of recovery information you can. This information will be used if you need to reset your password and to verify login attempts. Once you have added your information remove the old security info. Make sure you have access to the email & phone number you add, you will need to verify with codes. Remember to make sure your recovery info is also secure by using good strong passwords and two-step verification, remember app verification is always better than using a phone number.

Step 3: Alias Change & Removal

An alias is what you use to log in to your Microsoft & Xbox account. Go here and either add a new email or an existing email on a different email service (Gmail, ProtonMail etc.) Once you've done that remove the old sign in email. Make sure you remember this email or else it will be near impossible to recover your account.

    Step 4: Change/Remove Billing Information

Go here and replace the billing info, if there is none on the account you are good to continue. Go here to double check all the old billing information is removed.

    Step 5: Remove Devices

Go here and look for devices, select show details to see info for the device, under the device's name select More actions > Remove, select the check box, "I'm ready to remove this device", then select Remove.

Step 6: Remove Xbox 360 Console

Go here and click the "require profile download" button.

    Step 7: More Security Options

Go here and set up Two-step verification, you should see "Verify my identity with:" Click the arrow on the drop box menu and select email or phone number. Once you have set up your email or phone, head over to "Identity verifications apps" and set up the Microsoft authenticator app all you need to do is download the app on your phone and sign into your account. If you scroll down a little you will see an option to remove all trusted devices click on that, you should also see a recovery code section where you can set up a recovery code which can be used if you lose access to your security info I would advise you to store this code somewhere safe & offline.
