Account Information Well, I have been sent emails nearly everyday from people asking me whether I think that their trade is safe or whether it should be dropped. FIRST OF ALL!!! I don't think trading is a very good idea, and it sure as hell isn't 100% safe. The only thing you can do is take the proper precautions before you trade an account. This is meant only for advice, in no way am I forcing these tips upon you. =============================================== STEP 1.) Quick Background Checks Alright, no you don't have to go to a website and purchase a background check on someone, well unless your buying from someone because then I do HIGHLY recommend this. Now if your trading, which for the most part I'm sure you are, well then all you need to do is go to 's Hall of Shame and scroll down that list and look for the person's name that your trading with and/or their Email/Aim SN. Windshell has also provided a list of known and banned scammers. After you have completed that I recommend that you go the . and click on their forums tab and look at their "Scammers" forums also to double check. STEP 2.) Record Information This part is EXTREMELY important if you are purchasing an account, I can not stress enough how important it is!!! If you trading you can choose to SKIP this step, but I suggest you do it if you want a safer trade. First off, ask for their first and last name (make sure you write this down somewhere!) Secondly, ask for either a ventrilo server/teamspeak IP. If you both don't have one then I have one that you can get from me if you'd like to use it. Now if you don't like ventrilo then I really suggest you talk on the phone during the trade, you can really read a person just by how they talk and you can more importantly tell if something seems a little fishy, more than you would if your talking via emails or AOL Instant Messenger. Thirdly, make sure you get an Email address from the person you are trading with, the one they use the most. If they don't want to supply you with this then your trade obivously isn't as important as you both want it to be. STEP 3.) In-Game Meeting Ok this is something that you should do NO MATTER WHAT!!!! I don't care if your trading a naked 70 orc (disgusting) for a 19 twink, this is just something you NEED to do. If the person says they have no time left then I suggest either drop the trade or go directly to Step 4 and read the BLUE Text. !!!!! NOW, make sure you meet the person and check to make sure the gear is what you were looking for, if they say well sorry this is my healing gear and my DPS gear is in my bank... make them do get it OUT of the bank and wear it. Doesn't take long to go back and forth!! DO NOT LET THEM JUST LINK THE GEAR!!!!! It is so easy to just pick someone out of a crowd and start linking gear! There are also mods out there that let you store gear in a database so you can go in and look at it at any moment. STEP 4.) The Exchange Ok so you've met in-game and your talking to the person on vent/teamspeak or are currently on the phone with them. Well next is the probably most tense moment of trading, the exchange of account information. This part is all trust, BUT REMEMBER if your the OO (Original Owner) of the account then you can never lose your account, even if they delete your character you can get it restored by calling Blizzard and talking to an Account Managent Representative, you can also retrieve your account if the trade goes bad. BUT DO NOT SAY YOU WERE TRADING YOUR ACCOUNT, that will get you a ban. Anyways!!! Back to the point. First trade account names then passwords, switch off if you don't feel comfortable in giving all the info at once (MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN THE ACCOUNT NAME!!!). Once you have exchanged information, instead of logging onto the character through the game log into account management through the WorldofWarcraft website. Here you can double check all the information you have recieved at the beginning of the trade. FIRST, even though Blizzard has starred out the names on the account you can still match up the First and beginning letter of the last name, do the same for the email. NEXT, go to paid character transfer tab and double check to see if first of all the account is the one your trading for, as the character's icon should pop up, and also check if their Xfer is up if you were wanting it to be up. If everything checks out then you can now swap email addresses on the account. This part can get a bit nerve shaking also. However provided everything has checked out so far and your talking and getting to know the person over the phone or ventrilo, well they should be trustworthy by now, however some people are just bad and you can never be too sure about them. Just trust your gut here. Change the email on your account to what they want and make sure they do the same, now there are two ways to do this ONE way I recommend more than the other. Once you have let the person on the account and everything checks out then have them change the email on the account to what you want and you do the same for them. After you've done this and they have said they did this then go back into THEIR account managment and make sure they changed it, BLIZZARD'S ACCOUNT MANAGMENT WILL NOT LAG. The information will be changed instantly. If they don't change and it hasn't changed in the nest 5min I suggest you call 1-800-59-Blizz and have then restore your account information. Now the only other way is MUCH safer and will ensure that you get the emails changed on both sides. FIRST you change your password on your account after yall have trialed each others accounts. After you change the passwords then go and change the email on your account to the other person's email. Once you both have done this and clicked the confirmation change in your email, then you need to go back to the change email screen and send an email change again but make it something like FAKE123@. Once you do this, if you really did change the email than the email confirmation will go to the person's email address HOWEVER DO NOT CLICK THE CONFIRMATION!!!! If they person your trading has changed the email than you should get a confirmation for the account your trading for also, dont click the confirmation for the bogus email though!! lol. However do check one thing, make sure the account name on the email confirmation matches the account you logged into earlier (you should have recorded this), if it doesn't then you risk getting a trial account or lvl 1 blank account. STEP 5.) Secret Question Answer Now giving someone your secret question answer is very risky, however it is a must if you want to trade in most cases. The only thing you need to make sure of here is that it works. Go to the Account Managment Page on WorldofWarcraft and instead of logging into the account you traded for go to the forgot your password section, fill out the required information and make sure you get the new password in your email, if it doesn't work you will get an error saying "The information you entered does not match our records.". If everything checks out then congratualtions you have successfully traded your World of Warcraft account. =============================================== Now if you don't have any trust whatsoever in someone, then you can always go to . and have one of their REGISTERED "" do the trade for you! They are very trustworthy people, provided they have a good reputation.
