How This Guide Can Help You The purpose of this guide is to help you learn how to secure transactions online preventing mistakes that could result in a financial loss. While other parties can assist you at resolving problems that may arise, you're the only one who can reduce and prevent yourself from being a victim of a scam. This guide will help you reduce the most common scams but you're not 100% guaranteed risk-free. II. What Is A Scam A scam is when another party you have conducted business with has committed fraud resulting in them obtaining money or something else of value without anything in return. III. View Blacklisted Individuals Avoid doing business with people who've been blacklisted. See the list below: 1). Scammers 2). Banned Forum Members Use our search in the upper right corner and search peoples names to see if they have been blacklisted before doing any business with them. IV. Imposters An imposter is someone who pretends to be someone else in order to deceive others for a fraudulent gain. In order to protect yourself from imposters, require documentation if they are claiming to be someone. For more information, please visit this link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impostor V. Unestablished Facebook Accounts Avoid sending payment first or transferring your account information before payment to an individual with an "unestablished" Facebook Account. An unestablished Facebook Account is defined as someone who recently signed up to Facebook and/or has very little friends/pictures on Facebook. These unestablished facebook accounts are considered "high risk" and unless you can verify that they have feedback on another website and/or they're willing to go through an escrow middleman service, our recommendation is to avoid them unless they're willing to send payment first or transfer your account information before you send payment. VI. Remote Connection - Teamviewer/GoToMyPC/Logmein Avoid allowing an individual to gain control of your PC remotely using programs such as Teamviewer without properly configuring your remote software. These softwares have settings which if configured properly can prevent people from accessing your PC but only viewing it. If you don't know how to configure these, click the help option either on their website or through their software for more information. If you still don't know how to configure these files after that, then send them in game screenshots. VII. Email Phishing and Spoofing Email phishing is frauding an online account holder of financial information by posting as a legitimate company. Email spoofing is fraudulent e-mail activity in which the sender address and other parts of the e-mail header are altered to appear as though the e-mail originated from a different source. It is important to understand that in most circumstances, companies will never ask for your personal information by e-mail. In order to protect yourself from email phishers and spoofers, avoid clicking on any links OR scan (don't click) the URL to see if it matches the actual website. For more information, please visit this link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing VIII. Rushing Rushing involves the practice of hurrying a victim through a transaction as fast as possible as the less time you have to complete the transaction, the less time you have to think and make a successful one. In order to protect yourself, we always recommend that you take your time and make sure you're comfortable with any transaction you move forward with. IX. PayPal: Stolen Accounts and Chargebacks PayPal is a service which allows you to send and receive payments through the internet. In order to protect yourself from being a victim of someone using a stolen paypal account to send payment, make sure that the name on the PayPal Account matches the name of the individual you're doing business with. X. Western Union Western Union is a service which allows you to send and receive payments through the internet or through one of their branches. This payment service cannot be reversed at any point so by sending payment, you are counting on the recipient to then deliver the product. In order to protect yourself from being frauded, we don't recommend this service unless the individual has feedback that can be verified or you can fully trust this individual. If you have any doubt, use an alternate payment method to send payment. XI. Tips To Reduce Getting Scammed - Communicate and talk directly by phone or skype - Request specific screenshots including account names and character information - Buy from people who have verified feedback on other websites which you can verify
